    This homepage is a step by step instruction on how to install YLam Input Method in Microsoft English Windows 2000 (Server).

1. Some preparatory step for English Windows 2000
   • Make sure your Windows 2000 has Chinese Support. To do so, go to control panel:

     

   • In Control Panel, choose "Regional Options:

     

   • Please take "Traditional Chinese" and / or Simplified Chinese in "Language settings for the system:

     

   • Then click Apply. You may need Windows Setup CD:

     

   • After this, your Windows 2000 should have Chinese support.
2. Download and install
   • If you want to use Traditional Input Method, download and install YLam (Traditional Chinese) UNICODE
   • If you want to use Simplified Input Method, download and install YLam (Simplifed Chinese) UNICODE
   • If you want to use both, download and install both.
   • After installation, please go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Regional Option (as like in Step 1)
   • Click "Add" to add IME:

     

   • If you installed Traditional Chinese Version, add the following:
     • Input Locale: Chinese (Taiwan)
     • IME: YLam Input Method (Traditional Chinese Unicode)

       

   • If you installed Simplified Chinese Version, add the following:
     • Input Locale: Chinese (PRC)
     • IME: YLam Input Method (Simplifed Chinese Unicode)

       

   • Click OK
   • Start YLam Input Method in the Language Bar in main window:

     

     You should be able to see YLam Input Method Input Bar:

      

3. Download Input Method Table:
   • You have to download a input method table before you can use it.
   • If you downloaded Traditional Chinese Input method, there is a input method, which is a mix of
     • PinYin
     • English -> Chinese dictionary
     • Cantonese PinYin
     • Can Jie (Chong Kit) and simplified Can Jie. (to use this, make sure you turn the "Caps Lock" on)
     • Please right click on here (12.5MB) and "Save Target As" ciyu_b5_unicode.txt
   • If you downloaded Simplified Chinese Input method, there is a input method, which is a mix of
     • PinYin
     • English -> Chinese dictionary
     • WuBi (to use this, make sure you turn the "Caps Lock" on)
     • Please right click on here (5MB) and "Save Target As" ciyu_gb_unicode.txt
   • Click on "Repair" button of the input method bar (the red rectangular box area)

     

   • Click on "LoadFromFile" button.

     

     and choose ciyu_b5_unicode.txt or ciyu_gb_unicode.txt  saved above.It will take a while to build the input method table. Please wait patiently. You will see something like below:

     

   • Click on OK.
4. Start Chinese Typing
   • You should be able to type Chinese to Windows application
